The Côn Đảo National Park in HCM City has received five Nicobar pigeons (Caloenas nicobarica), a rare and endangered bird species, from the Côn Đảo Special Zone Economic Division after they were found injured and disoriented by local residents.
The Côn Đảo National Park off the coast of the southern province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu has officially received a certificate for Trứng Island as the ‘seabird sanctuary’ with the highest breeding density, and the Vietnamese ‘heritage tree’ title for 24 ancient trees.
In spite of pristine water and beaches, the island was mostly known for its notorious past as a prison, where thousands of political prisoners died during Frech colonial time and the Vietnam War.
